The Witcher season 4 has failed to reverse its declining momentum. In short, the show It all happened when the show had to face severe backlash after the departure of Henry Cavill.
Although, the makers replaced him with Liam Hemsworth, there were moments in season 3 where Henry Cavill’s presence was seriously felt, resulting in huge backlash.
Now, if you look at season 3, it was not a great series either. It lacked in various ways. One of the reasons of the season 3 couldn’t perform well is because of the poor script. And the other reason included Cavill in Geralt’s boots.
The core reason why Cavill departed the show was because it majorly deviated from the original source. And now, when season 4 released, it couldn’t make any major difference to the audience.
It’s because they showed all major characters getting killed off in spite of the fact that they actually survive in the original books of Andrzej Sapkowski.
The Witcher Season 4: Is Vesemir Truly Dead? Here’s What We Know

It all happenes during the battle of Vilgefortz and the Sorceresses of the Lodge where Triss turns to Vesemir, urging him to help secure Castle Montecalvo against attack. During the attack, he decides to grab 2 other witchers so as to add a few more blades.
But we come to know in the end that Witcher daddy, who’s favorite for everyone fails to survive his duel against Vilgefortz. This is what surprised a lot to most of the audience and looked quite unreal.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (showrunner) later revealed in an interview with GamesRadar+ stated that they already had to witness a controversy in the show regarding characters that they have killed them before. It could subtly point to Eskel’s divisive end as a Leshen in the show’s second season. “Yet every decision we make serves a purpose.”
The major issue with the season 4 that irked the most audience is the killing of some big characters. For example, they showed Istredd (like others) also dying at the time of taking control over portals. Reacting on the above, Hissrich maintained that the above decisions weren’t driven to surprise viewers.
This is what he has to say, “I don’t feel that every character is just there to be killed. It was all about to give the audience a surprise. As the episodes of The Witcher Season 4 commenced, the chaaracters have to face the trauma of losing them which was really a surprising element.”
All those gamers who have actually played the game, they need to check that Vesemir is stillalive in the game as well as in the books in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He was killed while defending Ciri from gang and Eredin.
