Arc Raiders Would Have Featured Heavy Crafting Timers Under A Free-to-Play Structure

There are some of the top free to play games exist in the form of Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Marvel Rivals where you don’t need to spend more. However, if you consider purchasing Arc Raiders instead, it has adopted strategy like Helldivers 2 which has a fixed $39.99 entry fee

On the other hand, Arc Raiders gives users an optional transaction just like Helldivers 2, and Raider Tokens. Even so, its decision not to go free-to-play spared it from the typical drawbacks that could have negatively affected the extraction shooter’s appeal.

Despite Concerns, Arc Raiders Launched With Players Willing to Pay $40

It seems there was a huge tussle going on to make Arc Raiders free-to-play game. The issue was first reported by GamesRadar through one of its YouTube videos

Virgil Watkins, who’s the design director at GamesRadar stated that it had become quite easier.

This is what he clarified, “In free-to-play games, you often have to create things quite stickier and don’t need to be in a hurry. And so, take more time so that players could remain stick into the above loops to play their game effectively.

There are some examples that confirm that there are some free-to-play games where crafting would likely be throttled by a timer, limiting how often players could engage with it.

Meanwhile, the items needed wouldn’t feel as intuitive, and the balance between effort and reward would be noticeably off.

While taking free-to-play off the table did help the team avoid some of its biggest challenges.

But there seems to be a new challenge emerging to find different ways so as to monetize the game that are strictly not predatory after players shelled out a meaningful portion of money to get in.
